Worcester, Battle of

In the English Civil War, final victory of Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth forces over Charles II 3 September 1651. Charles invaded England at the head of a Scottish royalist army which was routed by Cromwell, forcing him to hide before fleeing to France the following year. The defeat was a crushing blow to the royalists.
