Wordsworth, Barry (1949– )

English conductor. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London with Adrian Boult, before going to Amsterdam to study the harpsichord with Gustav Leonhardt. He made his debut for the Royal Ballet, playing Martin's Harpsichord concerto, and has since conducted there, for Australian Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada. From 1991 he was music director of the BBC Concert Orchestra (conducting the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, in 1993). He made his opera debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, with Bizet's Carmen.
