Wordsworth, Christopher

Wordsworth, Christopher (1807–1885)

English churchman and writer. He was the author of ‘Gracious Spirit, Holy Ghost’ and numerous other hymns, and his writings include commentaries on the Greek New Testament, 1856–60, and the Old Testament, 1864–70.

Wordsworth, a nephew of the poet William Wordsworth, was born in London and educated at Winchester and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was headmaster of Harrow School (1836–44) and canon of Westminster (1844) before becoming bishop of Lincoln in 1868.
