World Wide Fund for Nature

International charity established in 1961 to raise funds for conservation by public appeal. Its goals include the conservation of biodiversity and endangered species, the creation of sustainable and renewable natural resources, and the halt or reversal of the effects of climate change and pollution.

The WWF was the inspiration of English biologist Julius Huxley, who on his travels to Africa became concerned about the extinction of wildlife, and ornithologist Peter Scott, who designed the panda logo. During the 1970s the charity expanded its mission to address the human impact on the environment. As of 2007, the organization had some 5 million members in 100 countries.

The organization's name remains the World Wildlife Fund in the USA and Canada.
