Worthington, Henry (Rossiter) (1817-1880)

US hydraulic engineer and inventor. Among his early inventions was a feeding pump for steam boilers, and he later designed a direct steam pump that was widely used in water supply systems and for pumping oil through pipelines. Born in New York, New York, he trained as a hydraulic engineer and was a founder of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
