Woyrsch, Felix (1860–1944)

German-Czech composer and conductor. He was self-taught in music and went to Altona in 1887 as chorus and orchestra conductor.

Stage works

operas Der Pfarrer von Meudon (1886), Der Weiberkrieg (1896), Wikingerfahrt (1896); incidental music to Moreto's Donna Diana.

Vocal

motets and other church music; Passion oratorio; works for male chorus and orchestra; numerous songs.

Orchestral

six symphonies (1908–33), prologue to Dante's Divina commedia, Böcklin suite, theme and variations, overture to Shakespeare's Hamlet for orchestra (1913), violin concerto.

Chamber

five string quartets (1909–40), string sextet, piano quintet, two piano trios and other chamber music; organ and piano pieces.
