Woytowicz, Bolesław (1899–1980)

Polish pianist and composer. He began by studying mathematics and philosophy at Kiev University and law at Warsaw University, but turned to the piano, which he studied at the Chopin High School at Warsaw, where he later became a teacher. He next took to composition, studying first with Felicjan Szopski (1865–1939) and Witold Maliszewski (1873–1939), and in 1930 with Nadia Boulanger in Paris.

Orchestral

concertino, concert suite, Poème funèbre on the death of Piłsudski, three symphonies (1926–63), variations in the form of a symphony for orchestra; piano concerto.

Chamber

two string quartets, trio for flute, clarinet, and bassoon, Cradle Song for soprano, clarinet, bassoon, and harp (1931).

Piano

variations and other works for piano.
