Wright, Billy (William Ambrose) (1924–1994)

English footballer. A versatile player, equally strong in midfield or central defence, he won 105 caps for England 1946–59 including a record 90 as captain. He made 541 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers 1945–59, and led the club to the FA Cup in 1949 and the league championship in 1954, 1958, and 1959.
