Wright, Joseph (1756-1793)

US painter and dies-inker. Born in Borderstown, New Jersey, he studied in London, England (c. 1772), returning to settle in Philadelphia in 1782. He painted portraits, notably one of George Washington in 1783, who appointed him first draftsman and dies-inker of the US Mint in 1792.
