Wuxi| City in Jiangsu province, eastern China, situated on the Grand Canal 110 km/68 mi northwest of Shanghai in the Chang Jiang delta; population (1994) 960,700. It is a centre of the textile industry and is the largest silk-reeling centre in the country. Chemical industries and the manufacture of electrical and electronic goods are also important. |
