Wyler, William

Wyler, William (1902–1981)

French-born US film director. In an adroit, painstaking style, he directed several Hollywood classics, for example Wuthering Heights (1939), Mrs Miniver (1942), Ben Hur (1959), and Funny Girl (1968), and was a three-time winner of the Academy Award for Best Director.

Wyler lived in the USA from 1922. He was the recipient of the American Film Institute's life achievement award in 1976.
