Wynyard

Town in northeast Tasmania, Australia, 255 km/158 mi northwest of Hobart; population (1996) 4,500. Current industries include sheep, cattle, and dairy farming. The local Table Cape lighthouse was built in 1888.

The district around Wynyard was developed for agriculture in the 1840s. The town was proclaimed in 1861 at the mouth of the Inglis River.
