X-craft

British midget submarines of World War II. Introduced 1943 they were intended to enter restricted harbours and lay time-fused explosive charges beneath enemy ships.

Displacing about 30 tons, they had a four or five man crew and were propelled by electric motors giving a speed of 6 knots. They were used to immobilize the Tirpitz September 1943 and also against Japanese ships in Singapore harbour July 1945.
