Hsia Kuei (lived c. 1190–1230)| Chinese landscape painter. He is known for the brilliance and range of his brushwork, particularly his vigorous ‘axe cut’ strokes. Like Ma Yuan, he worked in the refined and lyrical tradition of the southern Song court. One of his finest works is the long handscroll Ten Thousand Li of the Yangtze (National Palace Museum, Taipei). |
