Sinuiju

Capital of North Pyongan province, near the mouth of the Yalu River, North Korea; population (1998 est) 349,500. The city lies on the Yellow Sea. It was founded in 1910, becoming important after the 1910 completion of a bridge over the Yalu linking it with Dandong in China. Sinuiju continues to be a major centre of rail transport between North Korea and China. Industries include paper, chemicals, alcohol distillation, and soya-bean processing.
