Welshpool

Town in Powys, central Wales, 25 km/15 mi south of Oswestry, on the River Severn; population (2001) 6,100. It is an important agricultural centre for a wide area, and has one of the largest markets in Wales. Situated 2 km/1.2 mi to the south of the town is Powis Castle, built on a rocky ridge, with formal gardens below.
