Yalu

River forming the northern boundary between North Korea and Jilin and Liaoning provinces in north China; length 790 km/491 mi. It rises in the Changbai Mountains in Jilin province, and empties into Korea Bay, just south of Dandong. It is navigable only near the mouth, and is frozen from November to March.

The Yalu was the site of major battles in both the Sino-Japanese (1894) and Russo-Japanese (1904) wars, and was later a line of confrontation in the Korean War (1950–53).
