Yanbu

City and port on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, 300 km /188 mi northwest of Jeddah; population (est 1998) 100,000. Like Jubail on the Gulf coast, Yanbu has – since the 1970s – been developed at the instigation of a Saudi royal commission from a village into a major deepwater port and industrial complex. Yanbu, now the largest port in the Red Sea, is at the western terminus of the pipeline from Saudi Arabia's eastern oilfields.
