Yaphank

Community in Brookhaven town, Suffolk County, southeast New York; population (1990) 4,600. It is located 11 km/7 mi northeast of Patchogue. It is primarily residential. Camp Upton was an army induction centre in World Wars I and II; the community lent its name to the 1918 Irving Berlin army musical Yip, Yip, Yaphank.
