yield

In chemistry, the amount of pure product that can be obtained from a chemical reaction. The amount is usually expressed as a percentage by mass. It is calculated by assuming that the greatest amount of product is that given by the balanced chemical equation, the theoretical yield. The actual yield is then given as a percentage of this theoretical yield.
