yo-yo

Toy consisting of a piece of string wound round the central spindle of a small spool. Holding one end of the string, the player can run the toy up and down it and perform many other manoeuvres.

The yo-yo was introduced to the USA from the Philippines in 1929 and later became a craze in Europe. In 2000, yo-yo sales exceeded US$1 billion worldwide.
