Yorkshire Feast Song, The

Ode or cantata by Purcell (words by Thomas Durfey), ‘Of old when heroes’, for two altos, tenor, two basses, five-part chorus, recorders, oboes, trumpets, and strings. It was written in 1690 for the annual reunion of Yorkshiremen in London, intended to be held that year on 14 February but postponed to 27 March owing to parliamentary elections.
