Yorkville

Name of two city centre districts, in New York City and Toronto. Yorkville in New York City is a residential and commercial district on the upper East Side of Manhattan. Settled heavily by German immigrants in the early 20th century, it is now a fashionable district popular with young professionals, and is the site of Gracie Mansion (1799), the official residence of New York City's mayors since 1942. In Toronto, Yorkville lies immediately north of Queen's Park. It gained a reputation for bohemianism by the mid-20th century, but has recently been developed into a stylish shopping, gallery, restaurant, and entertainment district.
