Young, La Monte (1935– )

US composer. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles 1956–57, and at Berkeley 1957–60. In 1959 he also studied with Stockhausen, and then lectured for a time on guerrilla warfare at the New York School for Social Research.

The Tortoise Droning Selected Pitches from the Holy Numbers for the Two Black Tigers, the Green Tiger and the Hermit (1964); The Tortoise Recalling the Drone of the Holy Numbers as they were Revealed in the Dreams of the Whirlwind and the Obsidian Gong; Illuminated by the Sawmill, the Green Sawtooth Ocelot and the High-Tension Line Stepdown Transformer both for voice, gong, and strings (1964); Orchestral Dreams (1984).
