Young, Mahonri MacKintosh

Young, Mahonri MacKintosh (1877–1957)

US sculptor and art critic. Born in Salt Lake City (and a grandson of Brigham Young), he studied in Salt Lake City in 1897, moved to New York, New York in 1899, and studied at the Art Students League (1899–1900) and in Paris, France, (1901–05). He taught at the Art Students League intermittently (1916–43), lived in New York and Ridgefield, Connecticut, and was known for his sculptures of working men, boxers, such as Groggy (1926), and Mormon subjects, such as This Is the Place (1947), in Utah. He also wrote articles and books on art.
