Young (or van Joungh), William (died 1662)

English viol player and composer. The majority of the pieces he wrote are for the viol. He was in the service of the Archduke Ferdinand Karl at Innsbruck, accompanied him to Italy in 1652 and 1654, and returned to England to join the king's band in 1660. Afterwards he returned to Innsbruck, where he played for Queen Christina of Sweden in 1655.

21 sonatas for three–five instruments with appended dances; three-part fantasies for viols, pieces for lyra viol and for viola da gamba; airs for two treble viols and bass.
