Karsh, Yousuf (1908–2002)

Amenian-born Canadian portrait photographer. He was known for his formal and dramatically-lit studies of the famous, in which he attempted to capture their ‘inward power’. His most notable picture is the defiant portrait of British politician Winston Churchill which appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1941.

And no wonder he looks so fierce in it - photographer Yousuf Karsh had just taken away his ever-present cigar.
Or as luck would have it, that he trained under renowned portrait photographer Yousuf Karsh.
