Yradier, Sebastian (1809–1865)

Spanish composer. He was in Paris for a time as singing-master to the Empress Eugénie and later lived in Cuba for some years. He wrote popular Spanish songs, including ‘La Paloma’ and the melody which formed the basis of the habañera in Bizet's Carmen.
