Yuba City

Town and administrative headquarters of Sutter County, north-central California; population (1990) 27,400. It is situated on the Feather River, 64 km/40 mi north-northwest of Sacramento. It is an agricultural trading centre for nuts, fruits, rice, and dairy products. It was laid out 1849 during the California gold rush. The town has a sizable Sikh (Punjabi) community. The Sutter Buttes are to the northwest.
