Yunkers, Adja (1900–1983)

Latvian printmaker and painter. Considered an important woodcut artist working in colour, he used a painterly approach to his medium, as seen in the polyptych called Magnificat (1953). Born in Riga, Latvia, he studied in St Petersburg, Berlin, Paris, and London, maintained a studio in Stockholm, Sweden (1942–45), emigrated to the USA, and lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
