Yvelines

Département in the Ile-de-France region of France, west of Paris and largely south of the River Seine; area 2,270 sq km/876 sq mi; population (1999 est) 1,354,300. Connected to Paris by express underground, it houses commuters and its woodland is used for weekend recreation. There is also agriculture. The administrative centre is Versailles. Other towns include Rambouillet, Mantes, and Poissy.

Yvelines was created in the administrative reforms of 1964. It consists of plateaux of the ancient provinces of Hurepoix and Yvelines.
