Zaccaria, Nicola (Angelo) (1923–2007)

Greek bass. He sang in Athens from 1949, and in 1953 he debuted at La Scala, Milan, where he remained until 1974. He frequently collaborated with Maria Callas, with whom he made recordings of operas by Verdi, Bellini, and Rossini.

He performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1957 and 1959, as Oroveso and Creon opposite Callas. He took part in the first performance of Pizzetti's Assassinio nella cattedrale in Milan, in 1958, and was heard at Salzburg from 1967. Other roles included Zaccaria, Silva, Bartolo, and Sarastro. He sang King Mark in Tristan und Isolde at Dallas (1976) and Puccini's Colline at Macerata (1982).
