Zadek, Hilde (1917– )

Austrian soprano and teacher. After study in Zurich she made her debut at the Vienna Opera in 1947, as Aïda. She appeared at Salzburg from 1948, as Brangaene in Martin's Le vin herbé, Eurydice in the premiere of Orff's Antigonae, and Vitellia. She sang Ariadne and Donna Anna.at Glyndebourne (1950–51). Her London performances include Aida at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (1950), Lisa, and Tosca. She has performed in the USA (at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York and in San Francisco) and throughout Europe. From 1967 she taught in Vienna.
