Zamboanga

City in Zamboanga del Sur province on western Mindanao Island in the Philippines; population (2000) 601,800. Zamboanga is a busy and sheltered port with a large export trade; it is also a centre for brass and bronzeware. Its name is derived from the tropical flowers which abound in the area, and its situation and climate have made it popular as a tourist resort.
