Zamboanga del Norte

Province of northwest Mindanao Island in the Philippines; area 6,075 sq km/ 2,346 sq mi; population (1995) 771,000. The capital is Dipolog. There are large forest resources, and the coast is dotted with small sawmills. A wide range of crops are grown, including rice, corn, coconuts, vegetables, tubers, and fruit. Cattle ranching and fishing are also important. Dakak Bay is a centre for tourism.
