Zamecnik, Paul C(harles) (1912- )

US biochemist. He won international acclaim for his research in protein synthesis, nucleic acid metabolism, and oncogenic (cancer-causing) RNA viruses. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he performed research in Copenhagen, Denmark, (1939-40), returned to the USA for a fellowship at the Rockefeller Institute (1941-42), then joined Harvard (1942-79) in association with the Massachusetts General Hospital (1956-79). He became principal scientist at the Worcester (Massachusetts) Foundation for Experimental Biology in 1979.
