Zamfirescu, Duiliu (1858-1922)

Romanian poet, novelist, and diplomat. He wrote a cycle of five novels based on an aristocratic family, Viaţa la ţarǎ 1895, Tǎnase Scatiu 1896, In rǎzboi 1898, Indreptǎri 1902, and Anna 1910. His posting to Italy as a diplomat had a lasting effect, and is reflected in the neoclassical style of the poems in Alte orizonturi 1894. He was later appointed Romanian foreign minister.
