Zaporizhzhya

Industrial city in Ukraine, on the River Dnieper; capital of Zaporizhzhya region and site of the Dnieper Dam; population (2001) 815,300. Products include steel, chemicals, aluminium goods, pig iron, and magnesium. It was occupied by Germany from 1941 until 1943.
