Zariski, Oscar

Zariski, Oscar (1899–1986)

Russian mathematician. Born in Kobrin, USSR, he emigrated to the USA to teach at Johns Hopkins in 1927. He later joined the Harvard faculty in 1969 and specialized in algebraic geometry, modern algebra, and topology. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he received the National Medal of Science in 1965 and the Cole Prize.
