Second-largest city in Jordan, 30 km/19 mi north of Amman; population (2004) 395,200. Industries include tanning.

World Vision registered in Jordan in 2008 and has since been serving vulnerable children and youth in Zarqa and Amman by providing psychosocial support programming in educational, social, vocational sectors.
Ambassador/Head of the European Commission Delegation to Jordan, Mr Patrick Renauld, accompanied by a delegation of the EU Member States, visited on Tuesday the municipalities of Safawi and Azraq, located respectively in Mafraq and Zarqa governorates.
Sources said that it will witness increasing demand over the coming 20 years, given that it will serve the cities of Amman and Zarqa.
