Zedda, Alberto (1928– )

Italian conductor and musicologist. He studied with Giulini in Milan and made his debut in 1956. He conducted at the Deutsche Oper Berlin 1961–63 and New York City Opera from 1963, and led revivals of Rossini's Ermione and Maometto II in Europe and the USA. Zedda made his Covent Garden debut in 1975. He was co-editor with Philip Gossett of the Rossini complete edition, and artistic director of La Scala from 1992.
