Zelezny, Jan (1966– )

Czech Republic javelin thrower. By the end of his career, Zelezny had produced the best five throws in history, the best being his 98.48 m/323 ft throw in May 1996 that became a world record. At the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 he denied Britain's Steve Backley an Olympic gold; Backley broke the Olympic record only for the Czech to throw even further in one of the best-ever Olympic throws finals.
