Zeno (426–491)

Byzantine emperor from AD 474. His reign was disturbed by revolts and foreign wars, and his attempt to reconcile the Orthodox Church with the breakaway Monophysite churches failed, causing a schism with the Roman Church.

Zeno was born in Isauria (central Turkey). He married Ariadne, the daughter of Emperor Leo I and became emperor on the death of his son (Leo II) by this marriage.
