Zermatt

Ski resort in the Valais (Wallis) canton, Switzerland, altitude 1,620 m/5,315 ft, at the head of the Visp valley and at the foot of the Matterhorn,; population (1990) 4,200. It lies 35 km/22 mi by rail from Visp in the Rhône valley.
