Zheleznovodsk

Small spa town in the Stavropol krai (territory) of the southwestern Russian Federation, known for its healing springs; population (2001 est) 30,600. Zheleznovodsk lies 10 km/6 mi northwest of Pyatigorsk at the foot of Mt Zheleznaya (852 m/2,795 ft), the source of its mineral waters. It became a resort in the early 19th century, and was made a town in 1917.
