Ziani, Pietro Andrea (1620–1684)

Italian composer, uncle of Marc' Antonio Ziani. He was organist at Venice, then at Santa Maria Maggiore, Bergamo. He visited Vienna and Dresden in 1660–67, and became organist at St Mark's, Venice, in succession to Cavalli in 1669. He went to Naples on failing to be appointed maestro di cappella in 1676, becoming a teacher at the Conservatorio di Sant' Onofrio and, in 1680, royal maestro di cappella.
