Zichy, Géza, Count (1849–1924)

Hungarian pianist, poet, and composer. He was a pupil of Volkmann and Liszt at Budapest. He lost his right arm at 14 in a hunting accident and wrote much piano music for the left hand. He became president of the Hungarian Academy of Music and the National Conservatory. As Intendant from 1891 of the Budapest Opera, he sacked Mahler.

Castle Story, Alár (1896), Master Roland (1899), trilogy Rákóczi (Nemo, Rákóczi/Ferenc, and Rodostó, 1905–12).

Instrumental

ballet Gemma; piano concerto for the left hand; sonata, six studies for the left hand and other piano music.
