Zimerman, Krystian (1956– )

Polish pianist. He studied at Katowice and won the 1975 Chopin Competition, at Warsaw. He has had successful engagements in Munich, Paris, and London with the late Romantic repertory, and in 1976 appeared with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his US debut in 1979, with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He played Lutosławski's Concerto at the 1989 London Promenade Concerts. He lives in Switzerland.
