Zittau

Town in the Land (administrative region) of Saxony, Germany, near the border with Poland and the Czech Republic, 77 km/48 mi southeast of Dresden; population (1995) 29,900. It has textile and engineering industries.

The Zittau Hills (Zittauer Gebirge) are sandstone hills to the south of the town. There is a Slavic minority among the population, known as Sorbs.
