Zlín

Town in southern Moravia, in the Czech Republic, 70 km/44 mi east of Brno; population (1991) 84,600. The shoe company Bata, founded here 1894, returned to Zlín 1989.

The town was renamed in 1948 after Klement Gottwald, president of Czechoslovakia 1948-53, but reverted to its former name in 1993 after the abandonment of Gottwald's communist ideology.
