Zlín

Town in southern Moravia, in the Czech Republic, 70 km/44 mi east of Brno; population (1991) 84,600. The shoe company Bata, founded here 1894, returned to Zlín 1989.

The town was renamed in 1948 after Klement Gottwald, president of Czechoslovakia 1948–53, but reverted to its former name in 1993 after the abandonment of Gottwald's communist ideology.
